Yes. At MCA we encourage anyone that is interested in joining to get in contact with the office as we can organise for you to come down and try out a class for free to see if you like it. Everyone is welcome to try a tumbling and a squad class completely free before committing to enrol.
" How much does it cost? "
MCA aims to provide affordable tuition for our athletes and their families. Classes operate similar to school terms, so a typical year includes an initial enrolment fee and set monthly tuition fees of 10 payments a year. Competitive athletes will also have uniform costs and competition fees.
" Do I have to be flexible? "
Absolutely not. Being flexible and pulling shapes is a great skill, but it is usually taught over time. For all our teams we ensure that fitness, flex and dance are components of all our classes so that our enrolled athletes get fit whilst they learn cheerleading.
" When do you compete? "
Our teams normally compete 4-5 times a year from June - November at local competitions. We also take some teams interstate for competitions such as the National Championships if they are not held in Melbourne. Simply check the Year Calendar in the information pack for more details.
" Do I train every week? "
Yes. If you enrol in a competitive squad you will be expected to be at every training session throughout the year. Cheerleading is a team sport so if one member of the team is absent, the team will not be able to practise as everyone is necessary in each stunt of a routine.
" What level am I? "
That depends on a number of things. When we recommend a squad for someone the decision is usually based on past cheerleading or gymnastics experience as well as what skills you currently have. Eg: a back handspring is usually required for a level 2 team.
" Do I need a Uniform? "
As part of the enrolment, our athletes are supplied with a training top and hair bow for all training sessions. Competitive athletes are required to purchase a uniform through the office prior to the first competition. Second-hand uniforms are sometimes available so please check with the office.
" Do I need insurance? "
Part of the enrolment fee covers your annual registration to the Australian All Star Cheer Federation who provide insurance to all cheer athletes with MCA. We also provide additional coverage for our students for all practice, competitions, performances & other events. We don't provide Ambulance cover, so that is something we highly recommend athletes get before they begin.
