2024 Europe Trip
👑 FUTURE CHEER INTERNATIONALS RESULTS 👑
🥇 Titans – Out of 20 teams! HIT ZERO
🥈 Mystics – Out of 13 teams!
After a door to door journey of over 30 hours, we arrived in London, got settled into our rooms and headed to bed. We woke up bright and early on Tuesday morning and spent the day acclimatising to the new timezone and weather, and exploring the city. Tower Bridge, Buckingham Palace, Big Ben and Hyde Park were all high on the list, as well as Borough Markets, Camden Markets and some retail therapy after the long flight.
Wednesday we got back into action, and both teams made their way to Unity Allstars for training. Coach Eddie took the group through some much needed mobility work, and we pushed through our fatigue and got some great work done, as well as a few final tweaks before the weekend. The athletes spent the rest of the day exploring and preparing to transfer to Bournemouth the next day.
Thursday gave us a great insight into the wonders of London traffic, making our way from London down to Bournemouth for the competition. Once we arrived, we got settled in to our new rooms and had a quick catch up with our cross team buddies before some stunt reps and mark throughs in the park. We even met some other international cheerleaders from Scotland who had come to compete at Future Cheer too!
Friday was comp day for Titans, so we headed down nice and early to get a feel for the venue and check out the hall (such a great vibe!) before coming back to get competition ready. We stayed about a 5 minute walk from the BIC, so it was really easy to come and go as we needed. Once we checked in, we spent some time going through final reminders, performance runs, and mindfulness work, before we headed in to warm up. The team had such great vibes throughout the warm up process, and having Mystics and our Supporters there to help get everyone hyped was such a blessing! After an incredible routine, we got confirmation that Titans achieved their goal of hitting zero! In such a big division and with little insight into the scoring in the UK, this was a big priority, as this was something within our control. Finally, after a mad dash in the rain (London Summer) to the awards hall, we sat as placings were announced all the way from 20th up. At single digits we were ecstatic, but when the team was announced in first place, we couldn’t believe the outcome! Once the final scores were released, we also found out that they were second overall in their Grand Champs division, which is just the icing on the cake.
Saturday it was all systems go again for Mystics final training session before competing. The team got some great work in and pushed through their pre-comp jitters, before finishing with a final park session on Saturday afternoon.
Sunday morning Mystics had a team breakfast to set their intentions for the day, before getting comp-ready and then heading down to the venue to check out their hall. Quite a few teams had heard about the ‘Australians’ at this point, so we were often stopped in the halls to trade koalas or pins, or just say hi! Titans were on deck to provide some words of encouragement and advice from Friday, and the team got themselves ready with a few final mark throughs before warm up.Mystics performed their hearts out on the floor, and whilst not the perfect routine they had been aiming for, we were all so proud of how they handled themselves and recovered from issues. After receiving the scorecard feedback from the judges, it showed how high of a difficulty level the team had and that all the hard work on their timing and execution had paid off. At the final awards session of the day, Mystics were announced as second place of 13 teams in their division, and everybody was elated at this outcome. The team celebrated by teaching all the other competitors how to do the traditional Australian dance the ‘nutbush’, and finally a photoshoot on the beach.
We are so proud of all of the athletes who embarked on this incredible journey, and trusted us to go to a competition and location that no Australian All Star cheer club has travelled before – and what an amazing outcome! A massive thank you to Future Cheer for all their support and to all their staff and all of the competitors at the event who were so warm and welcoming.
